What are Curcuminoids?
Curcuminoids are the bright yellow anti-inflammatory, anti-oxidant compounds of the turmeric root. Curcuminoids also cause cancer cell apoptosis (programmed cell death). There are many diseases that are very inflammatory in nature, most being in the category of auto-immune diseases whereby the immune system breaks down and starts attacking itself. Curcuminoids have been shown to be very anti-inflammatory without any negative side effects and many additional positive benefits. Curcuminoids are dual-action antioxidants extracted from the turmeric root. They have the unique property of both preventing the formation of free radicals, and of neutralizing free radicals. Curcuminoids are considered to be “bio-protectants” due to their prevention and intervention activity.

Recent research has revealed that free radicals play an important role in the progression of aging and related conditions. Curcuminoids extract, with a unique composition of the curcuminoids - curcumin, demethoxycurcumin, bisdemethoxycurcumin - is a standardized extract from turmeric, or Curcuma longa. The product contains a minimum of 95% curcuminoids. Unlike other antioxidants, there are two particular modes of antioxidant action of curcuminoids. The "prevention mode" prevents the formation of free radicals. The second mechanism, known as the "intervention mode", neutralizes the already formed free radicals by the action of free radical scavenging.

Patented Curcumin C3 Complex® from Sabinsa Corporation is therefore considered an effective "Bio-protectant" due to its dual activity of prevention and intervention.
